The Budget Review loads from your database showing the Companies and Amounts that exist in Watching Expenses at that moment. Entering expenses and income as they occur will provide you with a very accurate view of current expenses for each company you purchase goods or services. The Amount column shows the money used to make purchases to this date.
Double-click on a company in the Companies list. In the three texts above the name of the company the amount spent as of this moment and the yearly budgeted amount assigned by you will appear. Below the Budget amount will appear a percentage showing how much of the budget assigned to the company has been used to date.
At the bottom of the screen are totals showing the expenses to date and the yearly budget total assigned. Below that in a green or red text field showing the remaining money available or the excess amount used to date. From this you can assess the validity of your budget and make changes if needed.
Each entry made in the Expenses screen will have an impact on the Amounts shown on this screen. The "Amount of Budget Remaining" will change. This amount will increase and decrease as income is added to Watching Expenses and expenses are entered. The Budget amounts will not change unless you believe a new approach needs to be taken and Budget values are revised to reflect this. In effect you are managing a "living budget" which may be necessary if a major event, unforeseen occurs.
Knowing how your expenses are affecting your budget will guide you when making sound choices going into the future. Remember that as you progress through the year, the spread between the Amount and the Budget values will come closer together. From your monthly average spending a projection can be made determining how well you ar maintaining your budget.
This is the same screen as above with the "Compare Budgets" option selected. The left side of the screen shows the current year (as seen above). To help determine Budget amounts to assign, use the previous year Amount and Budget to help set the current year Budget amounts. This is shown under "Prior Year Budget Review". Base your Current Budget on known previous values rather than using arbitrary values once you have built year history in Watching Expenses!
