Most financial programs offered on the Internet are budget oriented: you list generic categories such as Food, Clothing, Entertainment and then assign a monetary value to the category.
The goal is to remain under the budgeted amounts. You budget $800 for Food per month and you either spend less or more than your target amount. This is fine but Watching Expenses is set up to show you where you have purchased your food, how much at each store and what was purchased. Knowing where your Expenses were purchased goes a long way in determining if you are spending your hard-earned money wisely.
To view how the breakdown of Expenses is done review the Companies (Expenses) in the left column and the right column which shows current spending totals for each company/Expense. WE Overview
Many budget programs will enter your Expenses for you based on bank and credit card monthly statements. That's fine but Watching Expenses requires you to enter expenses, usually on the day the expense is incurred. The benefit is that you know that an expense has occurred, its amount and with which company. Doing so takes only a few minutes, and you have a great understanding of your financial position.
Our budget page might be considered "organic"; it expands as the year passes. You establish a budget amount for a particular Expense and can update the budget amount to show changes made due to unforeseen situations. Your Automobile transmission gives out so your budget target can be changed to reflect such an occurrence.
